Jagdeep passes away: Veteran Bollywood actor Jadgeep passed away today in Mumbai at the age of 81. Indianexpress.com reported that he died following health-related issues. Jagdeep had worked in films like Sholay, Andaz Apna Apna, Purana Mandir, Qurbani, Shehenshah among several others.
“Popular actor #Jagdeep passed way. Om Shanti,” tweeted film trade analyst Sumit Kadel.
News agency PTI also reported that veteran actor Jagdeep died at the age of 81.
Jagdeep had started his film career as a child artist extra BR Chopra’s Afsana.
“He passed away at 8.30 pm at his residence in Bandra. He was not keeping well due to age related issues,” producer Mehmood Ali, a close family friend was quoted as saying by PTI. He had appeared in around 400 films. However, it was his role as Soorma Bhopali in 1975 film “Sholay” that was etched in audiences’ minds even today.
Jagdeep also played memorable roles in “Purana Mandir” and in “Andaz Apna Apna”.
Jagdeep’s real name was Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri. However, he was better known by his stage name Jagdeep. He had also directed the movie “Soorma Bhopali” with his character as the protagonist. Jadeep is survived by two sons – Javed and Naved.
